Sustainable solutions for a greener tomorrow

Time: 10h30 – 11h00

When it comes to sustainability, context is everything. Polyoak Packaging invites you to join us in exploring “localisation” as a critical success factor for reducing packaging waste and carbon emissions in South Africa. We’ll bust some plastic myths, explain why ‘biodegradability’ is not a silver bullet and provide local packaging insights and perspectives on recycling, post-consumer recyclate (PCR) and circular economy.

After working in the UK for 14 years in International Duty Free for Cadbury Schweppes and managing some of Britain’s most loved food brands (Oxo, Hartley’s and Loyd Grossman), including product development and consumer research, Michelle returned to South Africa. She joined the Polyoak Packaging Group in 2013, combining her industrial psychology, commercial and project management experience with her passion for the environment, to minimise Polyoak’s impact on the environment focusing on energy and water efficiencies, waste reduction, packaging recyclability and projects to drive increased inclusion of post-consumer recyclate. She currently serves on the SA Plastics Pact Steering Committee and Petco board.
