Starlinger at Propak Africa 2025

“At this year’s Propak Africa exhibition we will put a strong focus on sustainable packaging and circular economy – areas in which we provide industry-leading solutions and consulting”, said Stefan Ernst, Head of Starlinger South Eastern Africa. Starlinger’s ‘Circular Packaging’ concept for woven plastic packaging such as big bags offers proven technical solutions for a circular economy for woven plastic bags.
With Starlinger’s SPB filter module for starEX PP tape extrusion lines it is possible to produce tapes with high shares of recycled post-consumer PP and CaCO3 while ensuring that the produced tapes meet all required properties for heavy-duty tape fabric. “Our patented AD*STAR® block bottom valve sacks for cement, for example, as well as big bags and other types of woven PP sacks can be produced with significant amounts of recycled PP without compromising the fabric quality. Some Starlinger customers have already successfully implemented a circular system for big bags. They collect and recycle them so they can be used for the production of new big bags”, explained Ernst.
The other main topics will be PET bottle-to-bottle and post-consumer plastics recycling
In both areas, Starlinger ranks among the top technology providers worldwide. Starlinger PET recycling systems produce food-grade recycled PET and are in use all over the world, with the Starlinger PET bottle-to-bottle recycling process having been approved for food-contact packaging by various national and international authorities as well as brand owners. Starlinger plastics recycling systems also process a wide variety of post-consumer plastic scrap. To prevent so-called ‘downcycling’, Starlinger’s renowned odour reduction technology permanently extracts unpleasant smells during the recycling process, ensuring high-quality, clean regranulate that can be reused in the same application.
“Starlinger has been active on the African market for more than 45 years and we are strongly committed to our customers here”, said Stefan Ernst. “Africa holds great potential regarding circularity in the plastics industry, especially for plastics recycling and sustainable woven plastic packaging production.”
